More than 43 percent of UAE internet users admit to logging on to social networking websites while at work, a new survey to investigate online trends in the Middle East has revealed. The survey by online jobs site Bayt.com and YouGov, a research and consulting organisation, showed that the predominant reason for going online was to participate in social activities. Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) has launched a new high-speed mobile broadband network in the UAE as the former monopoly bets on data traffic to lift sagging profits. Etisalat will initially provide the service, based on long-term evolution (LTE) technology and sometimes called 4G, in 70 percent of the UAE’s urban areas, chief marketing officer Matthew Willsher told reporters in Abu Dhabi.
