Silicon Roundabout takes its name from London’s Old Street roundabout Google is to provide office space and assistance to new technology companies in London’s “Silicon Roundabout”. The company has leased a seven-storey building in the Old Street area, where many start-up firms are based. More than 43 percent of UAE internet users admit to logging on to social networking websites while at work, a new survey to investigate online trends in the Middle East has revealed. The survey by online jobs site Bayt.com and YouGov, a research and consulting organisation, showed that the predominant reason for going online was to participate in social activities. Etisalat launches 4G broadband in 70% of UAE

Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) has launched a new high-speed mobile broadband network in the UAE as the former monopoly bets on data traffic to lift sagging profits. Etisalat will initially provide the service, based on long-term evolution (LTE) technology and sometimes called 4G, in 70 percent of the UAE’s urban areas, chief marketing officer Matthew Willsher told reporters in Abu Dhabi. Apple Inc, the US-based technology giant, has launched an online store in the UAE as the company moves to ramp up sales in fast-growing emerging markets. The online store prices iPad 2s from AED2,099 and iPhones from AED1,899, undercutting sale prices at local retailers such as Sharaf DG and Jumbo Electronics.
